Jamal Murray Makes NBA History With 52-Point Performance
Jamal Murray turned a game time decision into a record setting 52 point clinic that reset the bar for efficiency and star power in Denver.
Jamal Murray torched the Indiana Pacers for 52 points on 19 of 25 shooting in Denver’s 135 to 120 road win, drilling 10 of 11 attempts from beyond the arc in one of the most efficient explosions the league has seen this season.
He became the first player in NBA history to score at least 52 points with 10 made threes while shooting 75 percent or better from the field, pushing himself into a statistical lane all his own.
It was Murray’s third 50 point regular season game and his fifth overall including playoffs, a tally that now gives him the most 50 point outings in Nuggets franchise history as he moved past Carmelo Anthony.
Only a handful of guards in NBA history have stacked this many ultra efficient scoring nights, and Murray has now joined the short list that regularly sits beside Michael Jordan on volume and accuracy in the same game.
From ankle worry to all time heater
The performance landed just two days after Murray sprained his right ankle in a loss to Dallas, with his status listed as questionable until shortly before tip in Indianapolis. Instead of easing his way back, he seized control of the game early, burying deep pull up threes and off the dribble step backs as Denver built a lead that once stretched near 30.
Each Pacers push met the same answer, as Murray kept hunting mismatches and rising over late contests, even cashing a fortuitous bounce on a front rim three that summed up how locked in he was.
Nikola Jokic quietly orchestrated with 24 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds, but even by the three time MVP’s standards this was a night where the offense simply belonged to his backcourt star.
Nuggets depth and Murray’s growing legacy
Murray’s eruption arrives weeks after Aaron Gordon’s 50 point, 10 three opener against Golden State, giving Denver two different players this season with 50 plus and 10 makes from long range and underlining just how dangerous this supporting cast has become around Jokic.
The Nuggets have already piled up several extreme scoring lines across the roster, signaling a contender whose offense now comes in relentless waves rather than solely through its centerpiece.
