Alejandro Garnacho Had No Doubts Leaving Manchester United: “It Was an Easy Decision”
The Argentine winger opened up about his United exit, saying he felt no regret and knew Chelsea was the right step.
A clean break with no remorse
Alejandro Garnacho didn’t hold back when discussing his departure from Manchester United. For the 21-year-old winger, leaving Old Trafford was not a painful goodbye, but a necessary step. Asked whether he had any regrets, he simply said “No.” Asked whether he felt sad about how things ended, he repeated: “No.”
The move came after his relationship deteriorated with United manager Rúben Amorim, and Chelsea stepped in with a £40 million bid that included a 10% sell-on clause. “Sometimes in life you need to change things to take a step forward or improve as a player,” Garnacho explained. “It was the right moment, and the right club. So it was an easy decision.”
A fresh start and growing role at Chelsea
At Chelsea, Garnacho has found a project that aligns with his ambitions. So far this season he has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists. His numbers are still modest, but the flashes of talent, speed and confidence have already made an impression in West London.
The Blues view him as a long-term piece in their rebuild: young, fearless, and capable of developing into a key attacker if given continuity and the right coaching environment.
Maresca’s verdict: Praise, demands, and high expectations
Ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Atalanta, manager Enzo Maresca spoke openly about the Argentine’s adaptation. “He can give much more,” Maresca admitted, while making it clear that Garnacho has the right attitude. “He wants to learn, he has an open mind, and he works hard on and off the ball.”
Maresca acknowledged that Garnacho has had mixed performances — strong in some matches, quieter in others — but emphasized that this is normal for a young player adjusting to a new club and system. Overall, the staff are pleased with his progress and expect his influence to grow as the season goes on.
A decision already paying off
Despite criticism or doubts when he left Manchester, Garnacho stands firm: he doesn’t miss United, and he doesn’t regret choosing Chelsea. He sees a clearer path forward, a coach who trusts him, and a club that matches his ambitions.
If his development continues to trend upward, that “easy decision” might become one of the defining turning points of his career.
