Jarrell Quansah warned his Bayer Leverkusen team-mates not to step off the gas, as they aim to secure their place in the Champions League knockout stage.

Leverkusen sit 20th in the standings after fighting back to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Alejandro Grimaldo was the hosts' hero, as he scored an 88th-minute equaliser at BayArena.

Leverkusen take on Olympiacos and Villarreal in their final two league-phase matches, with teams ranked between ninth and 24th qualifying for the knockout play-offs.

But Quansah is taking nothing for granted.

"No games in the Champions League can be classified as winnable, so we can’t afford to let off in our final two games," the England international said, as reported by UEFA.

"We need to get our points so we can finish in as strong a position as possible."

Due to personal reasons, Leverkusen head coach Kasper Hjulmand was not on the touchline at BayArena.

His assistant, Rogier Meijer, said: "It was an intense game. Against Newcastle, you can always expect an intense game.

"I think we showed character. Conceding the equaliser was a big blow for us, but we fought back to make it 2-2 and tried to get the winner. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get it."
