Huge Blow for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid
Real Madrid has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be sidelined for more than two months after tests revealed a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps. The club detailed in an official statement that the player underwent medical examinations that determined the extent of the issue, suffered during the match against Athletic Club at San Mamés.
The news comes at the most solid moment for the Englishman since his arrival on June 12. Alexander-Arnold had secured four consecutive starts, showing consistency and adaptation to the system, until he was forced off in the 54th minute of Wednesday’s game.
A recent injury history that worsens the situation
The full-back had just recovered from a muscle injury in his left biceps femoris that kept him away from competition from September 16 to October 26. His return was gradual, with controlled minutes at Anfield and Vallecas, before benefiting from the international break to work intensively at Valdebebas. That momentum allowed him to regain match rhythm and earn a place in the starting XI, a progression now abruptly halted.

Medical estimates suggest that Alexander-Arnold will miss around eight LaLiga matches, the Spanish Super Cup, the league phase of the Champions League, and the early rounds of the Copa del Rey in which the team participates through February.
A problem for Xabi Alonso at right-back
The Englishman’s absence adds to the long-term injury of Dani Carvajal, still recovering from knee arthroscopy and not expected back until 2026. This situation leaves Xabi Alonso without any natural right-backs in the squad, once again opening the possibility of using Fede Valverde in that role, as has happened in previous emergencies.
The setback is a double blow for Real Madrid: they lose a player who was experiencing his best form, and they face a weakened position during a crucial stretch of the season.
